Protecting British Columbia’s Ancient Forests with TJ Watt

“We’re in a unique part of the world, where trees grow as wide as your living room and as tall as downtown skyscrapers” says TJ Watt (2021 Grantee) of B.C.’s ancient forests. These magnificent trees are living and breathing parts of Earth’s history and each year roughly 10,000 sized football fields worth of them are cut down. This inspired TJ, a photographer and campaigner, to cofound the Ancient Forest Alliance which is implementing a science-based plan to protect endangered old-growth forests in British Columbia.

In this new video, TJ provides an update on his Trebek project where he creates startling before and after images documenting the devastation caused by logging, in an attempt to inspire people to pressure local governments to provide funding to support old-growth forests while supporting First Nations rights and communities.
